. _______________________________________________________________________ NFBV is a non profit organization that features solid organization, reasonable fees, generous player prizes/benefits, great competition, pro level equipment and the opportunity to gain AVPNext player rating points. Most importantly, members have the opportunity to give something back to the community through our benefit events. Since 2003 we have raised over $7400 that was donated to local members of our community in need. We are planning more of the same for 2008. Player Benefits:
What's New for 2008? Returning teams will have the first right of refusal to register for the 2008 beach season up until 3/15/08. A $100 per team deposit is due by 3/15/08 to secure a returning team slot. Returning teams are the domain of the team captain from the previous season. If a team captain chooses not to return, the right to that team's domain may be transferred to another team member who chooses or is elected to become the new team captain. NEW 3's LEAGUE ON THURSDAY NIGHTS!!! First ever Hamptons Open!! Checks can be made payable to North Fork Beach Volleyball. Teams may also choose to submit their team registration fees in full. Fees & Rosters Team/player fees are $160/team of 4 players each, plus $10 per player for mandatory AVPNext membership. New team deposits ($100) will be accepted on a first come basis. These new prospective teams will be placed on a waiting list and selected in the order that the deposit checks are received. These deposit checks are refundable in the event that a slot does not become available. Following 3/15/08, all other team registrations will be taken on a first come basis. All team rosters need to be submitted by 5/1/08 to confirm team eligibility. NFBV reserves the right to refuse team and player registrations based on previous violations of league code of conduct rules and policies. In fairness to all concerned, intentionally disruptive or consistently profane behavior will not be tolerated. While on the topic of fairness, AVP rules (as in past) will be enforced. Rules may be downloaded at http://www.fivb.org. Since this is a competitive league, we do state that play is intended for intermediate to advanced level players. Prospective players must be at minimum 18 years of age, or at least recent HS grads who will be turning 18 at some point during the calendar year. All players are required to be 2007 members of AVPNext, which we will have registration forms available. Everyone is also required to sign release waivers that certify physical well being and familiarity of AVP/NFBV rules and policies. Kerri and her partner Misty May are the defending AVP tour Champs, current 2007 FIVB World Champions and are likely to represent the US in the 2008 Olympics. Ryan: Kerri, where did you get your start? Walsh: I started in the 5th grade and played up through school, finishing at Stanford. MR: What do you think is an appropriate age for kids to get started playing ball? KW: Well, I think that somewhere around the 5th grade is a good age. The important thing is for the kids at that age to have fun and develop an interest. If it's not fun then they probably won't stick with it. MR: You had a fairly late start in playing on the beach? KW: Yes, I didn't start playing beach until I was 22. I was just out of college. MR: Has the year that you've had between traveling back and forth between the US AVP stops and the International FIVB stops taken a toll on you? KW: Absolutely! Misty and I have spent so little time at home and so much time on the road that we are just physically and emotionally tired. The constant stress of playing in both the AVP and the Olympic qualifiying run has been a drain. MR: You've got two FIVB tournaments left, one of which is in Brazil. Are you looking forward to that one in particular? KW: No, at this point I just want it to be over with. We want to qualify for the Olympics and be done. MR: What do you see in your future beyond Bejing? KW: Casey and I plan to start a family following Bejing. We're planning to have kids and have them travel with us. It's something that we're both looking forward to and we're very excited about. MR: Thanks for taking a few minutes. Best of luck to you and your future. KW: You are very welcome, it was my pleasure. AVPNext Membership Is mandatory for all NFBV players. Membership forms are available online for $10 annually or in person at one of our sign up nights for $15 pp. To register online, please go to: http://www.avp.com/volleyball_nation/avpnext/membership.jsp Thanks to all who contributed to the Friends of Kim Haeg Benefit Tournament!
